The New ACHI Website

The redeveloped ACHI website has been designed with the intention of furthering the activities of ACHI utilising a collaborative approach. The new content management system allows ACHI members and fellows to contribute content of various types, giving the potential not only for more updates, but also more relevant content, as members contribute material they feel will be of use. In this way, the website will become the hub for a community of practice in Australian health informatics.

Features include:

Fellow/Member Profiles

Self-maintained biographic information for ACHI Fellows and Members, allowing users to advertise their areas of interest and expertise. The member profiles can link to other online resources such as personal/project websites and/or CVs. These profiles are visible only to registered users of the website (i.e. ACHI Fellows and Members).

Fellow/Member Blogs

Each ACHI Fellow/Member can publish a blog on the site, facilitating discussion of current and important topics in health informatics. Members can reply to the blog entries of others, allowing feedback, support, critical commentary and networking.

Multiple Content Types and Categories

In addition to blog articles, content of several different types can be posted to the site.

  1. Events
  2. Announcements
  3. General pages
  4. Resources:
    1. Textbooks
    2. Publications
    3. Frequently Asked Questions
    4. Web links
    5. Article/paper/poster
    6. Presentation/lecture

The intention is for ACHI Fellows and Members to contribute material as it becomes available, building up a collection of useful resources. For example, after giving a lecture or presentation, a Fellow could upload it to the site. Fellows could also upload reviews of textbooks, websites, etc.

Most of these content types can be categorised into various topics and sub-topics, allowing visitors to the site to select an area of interest (for example, e-health and telehealth at http://www.achi.org.au/informatics/topics/ehealth). On selecting the topic, all of the relevant content (web links, articles, announcements, etc) will be presented

News Aggregator

Hundreds of articles are published in the News and Announcements > News Aggregator section of the site. These can be viewed:

If you have any suggestions for news feeds you would like to have added to the Aggregator, please contact the webmaster.

RSS Feeds

Certain content types on the site can be made available to subscribers via RSS feeds. This will allow new content from the site to be “pushed” to a subscriber’s email program or web browser automatically without the need for repeated visits to the site.

Many different feeds are available. For example:

This wide range of feeds will allow subscribers to receive notification of updates of the most interest/relevance to them.
