The current focus in New Zealand on a population based approach to health involves identifying those likely to benefit from preventive care, being able to monitor coverage of health services e.g. screening and vaccination programmes and integrating care provided in different settings e.g. general practice, clinics and in hospitals in order to maximise the health benefits gained from every dollar.
