Education in Medical Informatics

Institution:
University of Amsterdam

Since 1987, the Academic Medical Center has offered a university program in Medical Informatics. The curriculum has been based from its outset within the University of Amsterdam- Faculty of Medicine. This organizational structure leaves ample opportunity for integration of the informatics-oriented components with the medical and health care-oriented components in the program. To harmonize with the Bologna agreement, a renewed 3-years Dutch Bachelor (BSc) and a 2-years English Master (MSc) program in Medical Informatics are now offered. Both programs follow the IMIA recommendations with slightly more focus on medicine and health care organization.

The BSc and MSc in Medical Informatics at the University of Amsterdam Academic Medical Centre (AMC-UvA) are unique courses, the only one of their kind in the Netherlands. Full, associate and assistant professors of the Department Medical Informatics perform over half of the teaching activities within these Bachelor and Master programs.
